Coins & Banknotes
We are always looking for old Canadian, US and international Coins & Banknotes for our various unique collectors.
Even some common coins have value. Canadian dimes, quarters, half-dollars and silver dollars have a silver content value that is greater than their face value for certain years.
For Canada;
1966 & Older
1966 & older – 10¢, 25¢, 50¢ and $1.00 coins are .800 (80%) silver.
1967
1967 – 10¢ & 25¢ are silver but are only .600 (60%) silver.
1968
In 1968 we started the year with 10¢ & 25¢ as .500 (50%) silver.
Post 1968
Later that year Silver was dropped from the dimes & quarters.
How do you tell?
Simple, pass a magnet over the coins. If any stick to the magnet, they have no silver and are ‘spending money’.
American Coins
For American 10¢, 25¢ and 50¢ – they are .900 (90%) silver up to and including 1964. After that, they are also generally just ‘spending money’ (in the USA).
Helpful Hint:
Even though the Royal Canadian Mint has put many interesting commemorative coins into circulation in the past few years, they are all just worth their ‘face value’, so only collect them as a hobby!
Banknotes
For Canadian Banknotes, our collectors are seeking earlier issues, generally from 1937 & older! Some from the more modern issues, including the 1954 series, have a collecting value but need to be seen to determine their worth.
